UP FAIR QUESTS 2026 ECHOES RESOUNDING CALL FOR RIGHTS-BASED COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION (CSE) FOR THE EMPOWERMENT OF THE KABABAIHAN AND SANGKABAKLAAN

At UP Fair Quests 2026, we at Kabataang FPOP witnessed a clear and collective call from young people: Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is essential to the empowerment of kababaihan and sangkabaklaan. All through the night, many young people and advocates visited and interacted with FPOP’s advocacy booth – accessing confidential HIV testing and counselling, condoms, and other advocacy materials. More than this, their participation in our interactive activities affirmed their resounding support for CSE and emphasized the need to highlight essential topics such as consent, safety, contraceptives, family planning, pleasure, SOGIESC, and support for victims. There was also a strong affirmation to address the root causes of adolescent pregnancy and to develop youth-centered solutions for its prevention.

Kabataang FPOP and FPOP constantly strives to build a safe and supportive community where young people are empowered through informed choices, open dialogue, and access to services without stigma or shame. We believe in the power of the young people today – to speak, organize, and demand education that affirms their identities and protects their rights. We will continue to push for rights-based, inclusive CSE that centers the experiences of women and queer communities for accountability, empowerment, and gender justice. In such a time of overlapping crises, young people need to be at the center of shaping solutions – from activities, policies, and other means necessary to build communities rooted in care and collective empowerment.

From communities to national policy spaces, we demand and support rights-based efforts for the full and inclusive implementation of CSE, expanded access to adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health services, and sustained protections that uphold the rights, agency, and well-being of all young people.
